The Shield Fourball proved to be a low handicap versus high handicap matchplay between the top two pairs. Fergus Walker was in the midst of the action again, this time with partner Gavin Brown to finish with a net 65 despite quite breezy conditions.
Graham McMillan and Cameron McGeachy had slightly better conditions playing later in the day along with the added advantage of a considerable amount of strokes to assist them in their quest for victory. However this proved not to be enough, despite also finishing with a net 65, they just lost out to the better inward half from the more experienced pairing of Walker and Brown.
The Machrihanish Golf Club will play host to the Argyll and Bute Match-play Championships this weekend whilst members travel to Dunaverty for the away leg of the McNeill Cup on Sunday.
